Plans & Billing
vondo is a subscription product. Two plans, one straightforward goal: keep the lights on so we can keep building things you’ll actually use, while giving you fair, transparent pricing without dark patterns.
This page covers everything billing-related: the trial, the plans, how to upgrade or cancel, what happens when a payment fails, and where to find your invoices.
One subscription per household
vondo’s subscription belongs to the household, not to you personally. When you sign up, vondo creates a household for you and starts that household’s trial. If you later share the household with a partner or family member, they ride on the same subscription — no separate charge.
If you belong to more than one household (say, a family one and a personal one), each household has its own trial, plan, and billing. The Owner of each pays for it; other members never see a charge. See Households for how the ownership and billing relationship works.
For brevity, the rest of this page says “your subscription” — read it as “the subscription on the household you own.”
The 45-day free trial
Every new household starts with a 45-day free trial. No credit card required.
Six weeks is plenty of time to:
- Set up your accounts and categories
- Get through a full budget cycle
- See whether vondo actually fits your life
- Decide if it’s worth paying for
A few days before the trial ends, vondo will email you a one-time reminder so you can pick a plan or, if it’s not for you, walk away cleanly. We’d rather you cancel than feel trapped.
When the trial ends, your data isn’t deleted — it just becomes read-only until you pick a plan. Subscribe and everything reactivates instantly.
The plans
Two options, same features. Pick the cadence that works for you:
| Plan | Billing cadence | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | Charged each month | Maximum flexibility, no commitment |
| Annual | Charged once a year | The biggest discount; best price per month |
Exact prices show up on the pricing page and in the Profile → Plans & Billing section of the app.
One product, one tier. All plans get the full app — every account type, unlimited categories, reports, reconciliation, CSV import/export, MFA, mobile access, both languages, theme support. The only thing that changes between plans is how often you’re billed and the per-month rate that comes with each cadence.
Subscribe
How you subscribe depends on where you are — but the subscription unlocks vondo everywhere (billing is per household; see Where billing happens).
On the web:
- Open Profile → Plans & Billing.
- Click the plan you want.
- vondo opens the secure billing portal (LemonSqueezy) in a new tab.
- Enter your payment details and confirm.
- You’re back in vondo, fully subscribed.
On mobile (iOS or Android):
- Open Profile → Subscribe — or tap the read-only banner if your trial has ended.
- Pick a plan on the paywall. The price shown is your store’s own localized price.
- Confirm in the App Store / Google Play purchase sheet (Face ID, fingerprint, or password).
- You’re subscribed — access unlocks on this device and everywhere else you use vondo.
Already bought it on this store but vondo doesn’t show it? Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall to re-sync an existing App Store / Google Play subscription — handy after a reinstall or on a new device.
The first charge happens immediately. Future charges renew automatically each cycle until you cancel.
For example: You subscribe to the Annual plan on May 15. You’re charged that day. The next renewal is May 15 of the following year, and you’ll get a reminder a few days before.
Switching plans (upgrade or downgrade)
Want to switch from Monthly to Annual to save? Or step back from Annual to Monthly? It depends on where you subscribed:
- Web (LemonSqueezy): the cleanest path is to cancel from Profile → Plans & Billing → Manage Billing (access continues until the end of the current period), then subscribe again to the plan you want. This avoids partial-period proration and keeps the billing trail clean — there’s no penalty for canceling and re-subscribing.
- App Store / Google Play: change your plan directly in your store subscription settings (App Store → Subscriptions, or Play Store → Subscriptions). The store handles the upgrade/downgrade and any proration for you — no need to cancel first.
Where billing happens
vondo supports three billing sources, and you manage a subscription wherever you bought it:
| You subscribed… | Payments handled by | Manage / cancel / update card from |
|---|---|---|
| On the web | LemonSqueezy (secure third-party portal) | Profile → Plans & Billing → Manage Billing |
| On iPhone / iPad | Apple App Store | App Store → [your name] → Subscriptions |
| On Android | Google Play | Play Store → Subscriptions |
A few things follow from this:
- Your subscription works everywhere. Entitlement lives on the household, so a plan bought on your phone unlocks the web app, and a web subscription unlocks mobile. Only where you manage it is tied to where you bought it.
- Your card details never touch vondo’s servers. Whether it’s LemonSqueezy, Apple, or Google, payment is handled by the store or processor.
- vondo routes you to the right place. Tap Manage and vondo sends you to the correct portal or store page for your subscription — you don’t have to remember where you bought it.
Invoices and receipts
Every charge generates an invoice. Open Profile → Plans & Billing → Invoices to see your last 24 invoices, including:
- The date
- The amount
- Whether it was paid (and on what date)
- A link to view or download the invoice as a PDF
Need an older invoice? Email support and we’ll dig it up.
Subscribed on mobile? Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are receipted by Apple / Google, not here — you’ll find those receipts in your Apple or Google account. The Invoices list covers web (LemonSqueezy) subscriptions.
For tax season: The invoices have everything an accountant needs (dates, amounts, business info). Download a year’s worth with a few clicks.
Pausing and resuming
If you subscribed on the web and need a break — maybe you’re traveling, between jobs, or just want to step away for a month — you can pause instead of canceling. (Subscribed through the App Store or Google Play? Pausing isn’t offered there — manage or cancel in your store subscription settings instead.)
- Open Profile → Plans & Billing → Manage Billing.
- In the billing portal, choose Pause subscription.
While paused:
- You’re not charged. Renewals stop until you resume.
- vondo shows a “subscription is paused” screen on sign-in with a Resume subscription button.
- All your data stays exactly where it is.
To resume, click Resume subscription from that screen, or open the billing portal again and choose Resume. Billing picks back up on its normal cadence and you’re back in immediately.
Pause vs. cancel: Pause is for “I’ll be back” — billing stops, the subscription stays. Cancel is for “I’m done for now” — billing stops, the subscription ends at the period boundary, and the account goes read-only. Both are reversible; pause is just smoother.
Canceling
We’d rather know why than make it hard. There’s no retention call, no five-step “are you sure” maze.
- Open Profile → Plans & Billing → Manage Billing (on mobile: Profile → Manage subscription).
- vondo sends you to the right place for your subscription — the LemonSqueezy portal (web subs) or your App Store / Google Play subscription settings (store subs).
- Choose Cancel subscription and confirm.
Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. After that, it doesn’t renew. You won’t be charged again.
When the cancellation takes effect:
- Your vondo account becomes read-only — you can still log in, view, and export your data
- You won’t lose your data
- You can subscribe again any time and pick up where you left off
Pro tip: Before canceling, export your transactions as a CSV. Even though vondo doesn’t delete your data when you cancel, having a local copy is good housekeeping.
Canceling during the trial
If you decide vondo isn’t for you during the trial, no action is required. The trial ends automatically, and since you never entered payment info, nothing is ever charged.
Payment failures
Sometimes a card expires, gets replaced, or just gets declined. For store subscriptions, Apple or Google handle the retries and reminders on their side — just keep your payment method current in the store. For web (LemonSqueezy) subscriptions, here’s the flow:
- The charge fails. Your subscription status changes to Past Due.
- vondo (via the billing portal) automatically retries the charge over the next several days.
- You’ll get an email asking you to update your payment method.
- If the issue isn’t resolved, your subscription eventually moves to Unpaid and access becomes read-only.
To fix it: update your card where the subscription lives — Manage Billing (web/LemonSqueezy) or your App Store / Google Play payment settings (store subs). The next retry will succeed and your subscription reactivates.
Heads up: If you have an outstanding balance, vondo will not let you delete your account until the balance is settled. This is to prevent accidental data loss while billing is unresolved. Settle the bill (or contact support if you believe it’s an error) and the delete option reactivates.
What happens when…
A few less-common scenarios:
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Trial ends and you haven’t subscribed | Account goes read-only. Data stays. Subscribe to reactivate. |
| You cancel mid-cycle | You keep full access until the end of the paid period. Then it goes read-only. |
| You re-subscribe after canceling | You get full access immediately. Your data is exactly where you left it. |
| Your card expires | We retry; you get email reminders; eventually account goes Past Due/Unpaid. Update the card to recover. |
| You want a different plan (e.g. Monthly → Annual) | Web: cancel from the portal, finish the period, then re-subscribe. Store: change the plan in your App Store / Google Play subscription settings. |
| You pause | Billing stops, your data stays, sign-in shows a Resume button. No proration math, no period-end surprises. |
| You delete your account with an unpaid balance | Blocked until the balance is settled. |
Tips
- Annual is the cheapest. If you’re confident you’ll be using vondo a year from now (most people are after a few months), annual saves money.
- Update your payment method before it expires. A two-minute task before the card hits its expiration date saves the awkward few days of declined charges.
- Cancel ≠ delete. Canceling stops billing. Your data stays. Deleting your account is a separate (irreversible) action.
- Check Plans & Billing once a quarter. Make sure your plan still fits and your payment method is up to date. Two minutes, four times a year.
- Read the trial reminder email. A few days before your trial ends, you’ll get an email with the date and a one-click link to subscribe. It’s a useful nudge — many people use it as their decision moment.
- Pause before you cancel. If you might come back, pausing keeps your subscription alive and your billing intact. Canceling sends the account read-only and is a tiny bit more friction to undo.
